3rd Street Gallery presents Fragments, a solo-exhibition by Philadelphia based artist Matthew Hall. Using sumi ink and walnut ink on paper, Hall has created delicately illustrated scenes, capturing select moments that hint to a larger story. These presentations take both the form of individual excerpts mounted on separate panels, as well as winding accordion-fold books displaying layered imagery suggesting a stream of thought. As Hall states, “I am interested in narrative. Specifically, what we infer with limited amounts of information available to discern what transpired. My selections are that of the flaneur—the detached observer—carefully selecting moments that string together the experience of a space from within.”
