"New Codes series originated from my method of 'calligraphic' painting: using spontaneous drawing, and also ancient rock art designs to evoke a primal mode of communication. Pictographic language is both very old and universal kind of communication that allowed the first humans to generate the codes that would later develop in to a writing system. Doing these painting I feel that I am developing my own new magical codes as part of an experience of communication." - Jacqueline Unanue

"My artwork in this series is comprised of many individually created pieces each with their own distinct chraracter that amass into one overarching fluid movement. Using a mixed media of collographic prints, acrylics, pastels, and a variety of collages, I have produced a body of images that interact without being cohesively connected. 3rd Street Gallery is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Community Please join us to celebrate emerging and established Philadelphia area artists at the 2nd Annual Community Exhibition at 3rd Street Gallery. This exhbiit will be on display in our Old City gallery through the end of February. This exciting and eclectic mix of work includes sculpture, photography, mixed media, painting, and fiber arts. We are open on First Friday February 3rd from 5 - 9 pm, as well as Sunday, February 12th from 1- 3 pm for an Artists Reception. The snow date for the reception is Sunday February 26. Please note that if the Philadelphia School District is closed then the gallery will be closed.
